A desert trip, today. We saw lots of skid marks and an occasional cross by the side of the road, but at 80 or so miles per hour, the trip went fairly fast. The drive from Palm Springs was much less desolate than I remember a similar trip to Phoenix a few years ago. Seemed like there was no real desert, although there was plenty of sand. The sand was well populated by saguaro cacti (way cute, but troubled) and what I presume was mesquite (as well as the usual tumbleweed stuff). There were even several stands of cotton, which were the first instances of cotton in the rough, so to speak, for either of us. Its just like one would expect, but has seeds within the puffballs, which, I suppose, is what Eli Whitneys machine was intended to deal with.
