[that night]

We drove first to an amazing animal park. Here, we saw nearly all the animals one associates with Australia. I not only saw kangaroos, I petted them. I not only saw koala bears, I held one in my arms and was photographed doing so. His name was Wilbur, and it was his job to be nice to me. In exchange, he gets an easy life, limited working hours, and all the food he can eat. But the real point of visiting this particular location was the lorakeet feeding. This incredible parrot descends upon this park twice a day to be fed by tourists who hold out pans of honey liquid. These gorgeous birds land on your head, arms, whatever, but end up on the pan of goodies. Absolutely incredible. They’re there by the hundreds, and in the past have been there in the thousands.
