From the map, it looks as if my drive from Coff's Harbour to Surfer's Paradise was also a long drive, but I don't think it took more than a few hours. Halfway up is Byron Bay, easternmost tip of Australia, a cute town in which to spend some time if you can find a parking space. I couldn't.
